1. What is confinement food?
Confinement food contains ingredients and cooking methods with the following properties.
Increased carbohydrates to recover energy.
Increased Protein for better recovery.
Increased Iron for improved blood circulation.
Increased fibre for improved digestion.
Reduced sodium to prevent water retention.
Treats inflammation and expel trapped wind.
2. What are key ingredients in confinement food?

3. I am fully vegetarian, can Byond28 cater to my needs?
Unfortunately, we cannot. Byond28’s food menu heavily incorporates meat. We are currently unable to create a menu that guarantees the same amount of protein and calcium for you as compared to someone who can consume meat.
4. I am vegetarian for 1 or 2 days a month for religious reasons, can Byond28 cater to my needs?
Yes we can. Byond28 can prepare vegetarian meals and accommodate you for 1-2 days due to religious reasons. These meals will consist of soy-based ingredients and vegetables.
5. I am vegan, can Byond28 cater to my needs?
Unfortunately, we cannot. Byond28’s food menu heavily incorporates meat and dairy products. We are currently unable to create a menu that guarantees the same amount of protein and calcium for you as compared to someone who can consume meat and dairy products.
6. I have G6PD, can Byond28 cater to my needs?
Byond28 can accommodate mothers with G6PD. Ingredients used in our confinement cooking do not include kidney beans or fava beans that may be harmful to someone with G6PD.
7. Can I use my own herbs for my herbal tonic soup?
The menu at Byond28 includes a daily herbal tonic soup supplied from traditional Chinese Medical provider SWS 永生. It is a personalised 28-day herbal tonic package that helps you cleanse, nourish, and replenish during your confinement. We do not recommend drinking additional herbal tonic soup as it might affect the nutrition balance in your diet. Byond28 will not be responsible for any adverse effects that may occur from consumption of outside food and drinks.
8. My friends and family advised me to avoid consuming ginger and wine during my confinement to avoid my baby having Jaundice.
Byond28 is an evidence-based confinement centre. Evidence has shown that ginger and wine are ingredients that will increase the amount of bilirubin fed to the baby through breast milk. In cases of Jaundice, we will prepare meals with reduced ginger and wine for mothers until the Jaundice has fully subsided.
9. My friends and family advised me to avoid eating chicken & eggs during my confinement, can you remove it from my menu?
Byond28 is an evidence-based confinement centre. There is no evidence that consuming chicken & eggs will increase the toxins in your body during confinement. Cholesterol in eggs will not cause you to have high cholesterol. High cholesterol is more influenced by having a high intake of trans fat and saturated fat. It is common to have high cholesterol for the first five (5) weeks after delivery. High cholesterol during pregnancy is not common and might be an early indication of diabetes or heart disease. Chicken & eggs are key ingredients cannot be omitted from meals and may be grounds for us to reject you from staying.
10. What ingredients should I avoid during confinement?
Byond28 is an evidence-based confinement centre. The key ingredients to avoid during confinement are:
Ingredients that contain high sodium content, which will cause water & air retention
Ingredients that are cooling in nature, which will interrupt blood circulation
Processed food such as sausages or nuggets
Common ingredients to avoid during confinement are Cabbage, Chinese Cabbage, Watercress, Watermelon, Bitter Gourd, Bean Sprout, Lo Hon Gor, Cold Food, Coffee, Seafood (except fish), Beef & Lamb.
11. Does your food contain any allergens?
Byond28 serves food that contains common allergens such as soybean, nuts, gluten, chilli, fruits, chocolate, fresh milk, cheese, and other dairy products. Mothers have a responsibility to inform Byond28 of any possible food allergies before Check-In. Byond28 will not be held responsible for any possible food allergies that affect the mother. Certain key ingredients cannot be omitted from meals and may be grounds for us to reject you from staying. Please discuss with us should you have any queries.
